1965 Mustang Custom Convertible
The Story
With the Mustang, Ford successfully introduced an entirely new genre of automobiles – known as Pony Cars.
In the early 1960s, Lee Iacocca, vice president and general manager of Ford, envisioned a sporty youth-market car based on the compact Falcon. Developed in record time on a shoe-string budget, Ford introduced the 1965 Mustang at the World's Fair on April 17, 1964, to instant acclaim.
This custom 1965 Ford Mustang Pro-Touring convertible is powered by an original A-code 289ci 4V engine. This engine has been blueprinted and balanced and features Holley 750 double-pumper and Carter mechanical pump.
The Mustang's styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of competition. The Mustang is still going strong almost 60 years later and is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate.
